Verstappen fought past pole sitter Sebastian Vettel in the opening complex of corners to take a lead he would not lose, while the Ferrari man collided with title rival Hamilton, Vettel breaking his car’s front wing and the Mercedes copping a puncture, sending each to the back of the field.
Vettel would recover to fourth place, but Hamilton’s ninth place finish was enough for him to mathematically clinch the title.
